When You Need Courage to Wake Up

When You Need Courage to Wake Up
My heart is confident in you, O God, no wonder I can sing your praises with all my heart! Wake up, lyre and harp! I will wake the dawn with my song. PSALM 108:1-2

Waking up is difficult. Some days, even before the silver light of dawn creeps through the window, I have already begun spinning thoughts about my perceived challenges. I have determined a measure of my success or failure based on how I feel about my circumstances.

As a mother, I sometimes lack confidence in my own abilities to handle the day with all its surprises. I often believe the lie that I am in charge of how it all goes down today. What do we call the kind of faith that roots itself in a lie? Unbelief bullies me, it calls me names like “bad mom”, “failure”, “not enough”. I feel defeated before the day has even begun.

Then the spirit of grace awakens with the glimmer of new mercy making its way over the mountain top. It bursts forth in shafts of light! Here is a new day, fresh mercies singing over me, so I can sing again, “My heart is confident in you, O God…I will wake the dawn with my song.”

Mama, you have a song to sing with your day. You can wake up with the confidence that God is writing a melody with your life. If you find yourself saying, “I can’t do it. I don’t know the notes,” then you may have already put your faith in the wrong thing. You might be right, maybe you can’t. But He can.

He is the Song Writer; he knows all the notes. He knows the highs and the lows and how they will sync together to form your song. Allow him to direct the rhythm and meter of your day. He has a part for you to sing!

God designed you, he called you, and he is faithful. He will give you all that you need, for you are God’s masterpiece. He has created you anew in Christ Jesus—today! So you can do the good things he planned for you all along.

So wake up, sleepy soul! Wake up, harp and lyre—Wake up stroller. Wake up dish washer. Wake up swing set. Wake up wagon. Wake up coloring books. Wake up dollies and wake up trucks. Wake up Mommy. Wake up ouchie healer. Wake up boo-boo kisser. Wake up laundry folder. Awaken the dawn with your song!

When you tune your heart to the song God is orchestrating over your life and play it to the rhythm of his grace, you become a harmony in his master symphony.
